A Lesson in Love: Pupils Serve a 70-Year-Old Woman in Need

Guided by Catholic values, our pupils showed love and mercy by supporting an elderly woman in Gangdyang Cell living our values of Love, Faith, and Passion.

Teaching Compassion: A School Visit That Transformed Hearts

Under the guidance of His Grace, Archbishop Wokorac Raphael P’Mony, whose vision is that all Catholic schools evangelize through education. Giulio Pastore Pre-Primary and Primary School continues to place Christ at the centre of all learning and formation, inspired by our core values of Love, Faith, and Passion.

This term, our school put these values into action by reaching out to yet another 70-year-old woman in Gangdyang Cell, Pandwong Division, who has long suffered after being bewitched, leaving her leg paralysed and her life dependent solely on God’s providence. With no children, husband, or stable shelter apart from an old tarsous house offered by a Good Samaritan, she lives in deep vulnerability.

On 20th November 2025, our pupils and staff visited her, cleaning her compound, washing her clothes, and donating food and clothing—an act of Christian love, lived faith, and passionate service that revealed Christ’s presence in this work of mercy. Our outreach echoes Jesus’ teaching,

“Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” (Matthew 25:40),

Reminding our learners that they encounter Christ Himself in the suffering and neglected. It also reflects the call of Galatians 5:13, “Serve one another humbly in love,” and 1 John 3:18, “Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth,” showing our children that authentic discipleship requires action, compassion, and self-giving.

Through this experience, the pupils grew in compassion, gratitude, responsibility, community spirit, and deeper Catholic identity, living our mission of evangelizing through education with love in their hearts, faith in their actions, and passion in their service.

As a school, we remain committed to forming children who embody the Gospel in word and deed, and we thank all parents, staff, and learners for supporting this mission. We continue to pray for the elderly woman we visited and for all those in need, trusting that God’s mercy and healing will surround them. Led by their teachers and school staff, the pupils visited vulnerable members of the Kitgum Municipality community. With joyful hearts and giving hands, they donated food, clothes, soap, and other essential items to the elderly, sick children, and struggling families.

Headteacher Mr. Komakech Richard Odur addressed the pupils afterward, emphasizing that charity is not only about giving things, but about sharing love, hope, and dignity.

“We don’t give to show off — we give to lift others. Real charity lives in our everyday actions,” he told the school during assembly.

The pupils then shared their stories of kindness and compassion with the school community, which inspired them to continue to serve others in the future.

“Hearts in Action”: We Launched Monthly Charity Outreach

Giulio Pastore PrePrimary and Primary School has launched a monthly charity outreach to serve the needy in Kitgum Municipality, teaching pupils the true meaning of love, service, and compassion.

“Hearts in Action”: Giulio Pastore School Launches Monthly Charity Outreach

On 11th July 2025, Giulio Pastore PrePrimary and Primary School officially launched its first-ever Monthly Charity Outreach Program, under the inspiring theme: “Called to Serve: Sharing God’s Love Through Acts of Charity.”

Rooted in the Bible verse Matthew 25:40 — “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” — this outreach aims to teach pupils that true service comes from the heart.

“I gave sugar and a bar of soap to a grandmother. She smiled, hugged me, and said thank you. I felt happy because I helped someone,” shared by one of the young pupils, beaming with pride.

Beyond material gifts, the pupils also offered prayers, smiles, and encouraging words, proving that even the smallest act of kindness can make a big difference.
