Foundation

Giulio Pastore Primary school (GPPS) is a faith-based institution founded by the Catholic Church of Gulu Archdiocese under Christ the King Parish, Kitgum in 1973 as a Nursery School. The school was upgraded to Primary level in 1990 and fully registered by the Ministry of Education and sports in 2000 with registration number PPS/G/26.
school serves the vulnerable urban communities of Kitgum municipality and its neighbours.

The school was founded as a private catholic nursery school by the late Brother Giulio Pastore after whom the school got its name. The school was then run by Italian volunteers in conjunction with the Parish Priest and some members of the laity of Christ the King Parish. In 1976, the first Board of Governors of Giulio Pastore Nursery School was inaugurated by His Lordship Cyprian Dr. Kihangire, the then Bishop of Gulu Diocese.

Milestone

In 1987, more than 10 years after its inauguration, the school operation and administration passed into the hands of indigenous educators/teachers. In 1990, the new administration of local educators expanded the school into a fully-fledged private primary school. Unfortunately, the school collapsed around early to mid-2000s due to management challenges only to be re-established in 2013.

The school was registered with the Ministry of Education and Sports on March 22nd 1999 as a license school with License Number ME/P/700 and registered on 24th March 2000 with Registration Number PPS/G/76) and eventually got registered as an examination centre of the Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) with Centre Number 004340. In accordance with the Education Act 2008, the school is now managed by a School Management Committee that comprises of representatives of the different stakeholders, including the foundation body, parents, local government and old pupils.

Today, the school boasts of achieving 83% enrollment during the post Covid-19 education recovery challenges with 778 children enrolled in 2024, up from 424 in 2022. 31 staff members, 100% access to sustainable solar motorized clean water, 90% safe school environment, 85% parent commitment up from less than 50%, zero debt, rated over 75% fit for providing education by the Ministry of Education and Sports. Generally, the school bounced back stronger from the Covid-19 challenges.

Honesty implies being truthful. Honesty means to develop a practice of speaking truth throughout our lives. Every one of us must have heard the phrase “Honesty is the Best Policy”. It is indeed a wise phrase. Probably, every child learns this teaching from their parents, teachers and the community. We have to be honest with our duty.

Reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, surety, etc., of a person or thing. It is the confidence that one has in you that you will take responsibility and accomplish tasks without worry. One has to trust and also to be trusted.
