Giulio Pastore Primary School (GPPS) is a Catholic-based educational institution established in 1974 under the Archdiocese of Gulu, Christ the King Parish, Kitgum, Uganda. The School is a private Pre-Primary and Primary School and is fully registered with the Ministry of Education and Sports under registration number PPS/G/26. The school got its name in memory of Giulio Pastore (1902–1969), who was an Italian Catholic leader, journalist, and statesman whose life was dedicated to promoting social justice, workers’ rights, and Christian values.
His deep faith, integrity, and commitment to education and human development inspired the establishment of the School. It was named in his memory as a dedication from his best friend, Giulio Androriti, the then Italian Prime Minister, who was the first donor during the establishment of the school, to continue his legacy of nurturing future generations through love, honesty, trust, passion, excellence, and accountability.
In 1987, more than 10 years after its inauguration, the school operation and administration passed into the hands of indigenous educators/teachers. In 1990, the new administration of local educators expanded the school into a fully-fledged private primary school. Unfortunately, the school collapsed around early to mid-2000s due to management challenges only to be re-established in 2013.
The school was registered with the Ministry of Education and Sports on March 22nd 1999 as a license school with License Number ME/P/700 and registered on 24th March 2000 with Registration Number PPS/G/76) and eventually got registered as an examination centre of the Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) with Centre Number 004340. In accordance with the Education Act 2008, the school is now managed by a School Management Committee that comprises of representatives of the different stakeholders, including the foundation body, parents, local government and old pupils.

"In Christ we educate"
Giulio Pastore Primary School is committed to providing a quality education rooted in Catholic values, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes spiritual growth, academic achievement, and community engagement.
To be a leading Catholic primary school that nurtures holistic development, academic excellence, and moral integrity in children, empowering them to become responsible and compassionate members of society.
The Bible says that “God is Love” (1 John 4:8). Love is the foundation of Christian life and the first fruit of the Holy Spirit. At Giulio Pastore Nursery and Primary School, love guides how we teach, relate, and nurture children. By showing love, we imitate Christ the Good Shepherd, ensuring that every child grows in a caring and supportive environment. “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you” (John 15:12).
Honesty implies being truthful and living with integrity. It forms the bedrock of trust between staff, pupils, parents, and the school community. An honest person reflects the image of God, who is Truth itself. By practicing honesty, we form children who are trustworthy citizens and faithful Christians. “Provide things honest in the sight of all men” (Romans 12:17, Douay-Rheims Bible).
Trust builds confidence in relationships and fosters collaboration. Within the school, it means believing in one another’s abilities and reliability. Trust also calls us to put our faith in God, recognizing that He directs all our work and mission. “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord” (Jeremiah 17:7).
Accountability means taking responsibility for our actions and duties, fulfilling them with diligence. Leaders, teachers, parents, and pupils are accountable before God and each other to uphold the mission of the school. It ensures transparency, responsibility, and stewardship of the resources entrusted to us. “So then each of us shall render account of himself to God” (Romans 14:12, Douay-Rheims Bible).
Giulio Pastore School chooses these values because education is not just a duty, but a vocation and mission. Passion inspires teachers, parents, and pupils to dedicate themselves with zeal and enthusiasm. Excellence ensures that in all we do—teaching, learning, service, and leadership—we give our very best for the glory of God. These values reflect the Catholic call to holiness: striving with love and joy to become the best versions of ourselves. “Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord” (Romans 12:11). “And whatsoever you do, in word or in work, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus” (Colossians 3:17, Douay-Rheims Bible).
